A New Space for a Growing Family

Tadd Anderson   -

Church buildings don’t make disciples—God’s people do. But having the right spaces is helpful as we strive to be as faithful and effective as possible in our mission of making disciples. As our church family continues to grow, our elders have recognized a pressing need for a ‘third space’—a simple, functional building that will serve multiple purposes other than Worship and Kid’s Ministry.

Over the past few years, we’ve encountered some growing pains:

– Lack of necessary space for fellowship and outreach logistics.

– Need for designated student ministry space.

– Insufficient storage for ministry resources and supplies.

– Temporary usage of Kid’s Ministry spaces to alleviate the need for storage.

The newly proposed building would be designed to address these needs and create a space that serves our church well for many years to come.

Building Details

4,800 sq. ft. total (2,400 sq. ft. enclosed + 2,000 sq. ft. covered seating).

Multi-use interior:

– Open, garage-style space for flexibility.

– Two bathrooms and a water fountain for convenience.

– Kitchen area with cabinets, countertop, 3-compartment sink, refrigerator, and food warmer.

– Storage loft above the kitchen.

– Large garage door for easy access during events and outreach efforts.

Ideal for:

– Student ministry meetings and events.

– Church fellowship meals and gatherings.

– Local outreach event preparations.

– Miscellaneous storage.

The Financial Picture

If approved, we are committed to stewarding our resources well and taking a wise, phased approach to this project.

– Phase 1 (Getting the Building Up & Ready): $189,500

– Phase 2 (Interior Finishing Over Time): $58,500

– Total Estimated Cost: $248,000

We are thankful to have between $35,000 and $50,000 available for initial costs. To move forward with construction, we would propose securing a $200,000 loan from Florida Baptist Financial Services. This would allow us to begin work immediately and confidently complete Phase 1 as well as a majority of, if not all of Phase 2. Any remaining finishes could be completed as we have the discretionary funds to do so. This conservative loan takes into consideration our future budget, as it would result in a reasonable monthly payment that would be very manageable based on current giving trends.

Next Steps

While we are excited about the prospect of this new building and its benefits, the most important thing is that we maintain our current high level of unity. That said, we want to ensure everyone has a chance to ask questions, provide feedback, and be a part of this process. As a result, our tentative schedule is as follows:

1. Initial Q&A

– Date: February 9th

– We held an initial Q&A session to hear the thoughts of members who attended our vision meeting. The overall feeling was very positive, and we gathered valuable input to guide us forward.

[If you missed the in-person meeting and would like to talk with our elders directly, we would be more than happy to set up a time to connect. Please reach out to us at elders@thehubcitychurch.org.]

2. 2-Week Survey

– Date: February 10th – February 23rd

– During this time, we’ll distribute a survey to our church members to gather more specific feedback about the building project.

– Fill out the survey HERE.

3. Follow-Up Meeting

– Date: March 2nd

– We’ll hold a follow-up meeting to discuss the survey results, address any concerns, and provide further details on the next steps.

4. Member Vote

– Date: Tentatively March 3rd – 5th

– We’ll conduct a member vote to determine whether or not to move forward with the building project, based on the gathered feedback.

5. Begin Working

– Date: Tentatively March 10th

– If an affirmative vote is confirmed, we’ll begin working on Phase 1 of the building project.

Your Response

We encourage all members of HCC to take a moment to fill out the survey and share your thoughts with us—a crucial part of the process as we decide how to move forward! But, above all, please join together with us in prayer for the Lord’s continued guidance and wisdom as we seek to faithfully steward the resources He has entrusted to us!

Unless the LORD builds the house, those who build it labor in vain.
