The Birth of the Church | Acts 5:12-42 Good things, Bad things and the Main thing
Acts 5:12-42
From the beginning, Jesus’ church has been marked by a blend of amazing things, difficult things, and an unwavering focus on the main thing.
We praise God when things go well…
– When sinners believe the gospel (Luke 15:7)
– When true ministry is lived out among us (1 Thessalonians 1:2-8)
– When He delivers us from trials (2 Corinthians 1:10)
We expect to encounter challenging things…
– Because people will sin against us (Matthew 6:14-15)
– Because the enemy will fight against us (1 Peter 5:8)
– Because trials will often perplex us (2 Corinthians 4:8-9)
“I have learned to kiss the wave that throws me against the rock of ages.” — Charles Spurgeon
Through it all, we don’t give up on the main thing.
– We keep proclaiming the message of Christ (Colossians 1:28-29)
– We stick together with the body of Christ (Philippians 1:27)
– No matter what, we keep rejoicing that we belong to Christ (Matthew 5:11-12)
