Therefore: A Series on the Basic Measures of Gospel-Centered Disciples | Giving Cheerfully and Regularly

2 Corinthians 8:9, 7-8

Christians give generously to the mission of Jesus’ church because Jesus graciously gave everything that they might be adopted into it.

“There are three kinds of giving: grudge giving, duty giving, and thanksgiving. Grudge giving says, “I have to”; duty giving says, “I ought to”; thanksgiving says, “I want to”. — Robert Rodenmeyer

2 Corinthians 9:7

Our giving is to be ‘cheerful’ because, it was “for the JOY that was set before Him” that Jesus “endured the Cross”.

Hebrews 12:2 // John 3:16

Our giving to the church should be regular because the need abounds and because the Lord promises to continue blessing those who use their blessings to be a blessing.

1 Corinthians 16:1-2

Malachi 3:8-11 // Luke 6:38 // 2 Corinthians 9:6, 8-11

Ultimately, The Hub City Church believes that no one should give their money as an offering who doesn’t want to or understand why the gospel implicates it BUT that those who claim union with Christ have a faith that overcomes both of those hurdles.

Matthew 6:24 // 1 Timothy 6:17-19
